Type 2 Diabetes: Medical Nutrition Therapy Prevention The American Diabetes Association (ADA) conducted a 2012 study measuring the â€Å"Economic Cost of Diabetes in the U.S.,† the results showed a $245 billion financial  ¬-encumbrance from the use of health resources and lost productivity over a 5 year period (American Diabetes, 2013). The cost amounts â€Å"accounts for more than 1 in 5 health care dollars in the U.S.,† and about 62% of cost being covered by government insurance (American Diabetes, 2013). Some people may be unaware of how changing to a healthy lifestyle by eating he althy, losing weight and being more physically active can help delay or prevent type 2 diabetes, as a result it could also help reduce the financial burden of diabetes care for the individual and the economy. The cost of diabetes as a whole may not be on U.S. tax payer’s radar, or seen as a big picture concerns, even small or corporate business may not be aware of how the cost of productivity effect their bottom dollar. The cost of being unhealthy living with chronic disease does not just effect one person’s quality of life but it effect their families, caregivers, business productivity, health professionals, which has a trickledown effect on the U.S. economy. If the rate of diabetes diagnoses continue to increase it is estimated that by the year 2050 1 in 3 adults will have diabetes (Boyle, Thompson, Gregg, 2010). The office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, have a Healthy People 2020 goal to â€Å"reduce the disease and economic burden of diabetes mellit us (DM) and improve the quality of life for all persons who have, or are at risk for DM. Water Pollution And Its Effects On The Environment

You see a sewer or pipe line dumping wastewater or sewage into a river, lake, or ocean. Ask yourself this question: would you drink from that water source? You see a sea otter or a seal swimming in water that has been contaminated by oil from an oil spill. Ask yourself another question: would you live in these waters? You see what you know as acid rain directly pounding onto a stream, lake or river. Ask yourself a final question would you eat the vegetation or the fish that directly come into contact with this polluted version of nature’s shower? Make an effort to delegate the task early to avoid unnecessary pressure. This allows the  person to better plan the task. 2. Select the right person. Ensure that the person has the time to take on the responsibility. Assess the skills and capabilities of his/her staff  and assign the task to the most appropriate person. Make sure the person has the training and resources  to succeed. 3. Communicate the rationale and benefit. Identify  the reason for the task and how it will contribute to the goals of the company or department or team. Also, point out how the  delegated task could benefit the person. For example, develop a specific skill that is needed to get promoted. 4. Delegate the entire task to one person. This gives the person the responsibility, increases their motivation and avoids ambiguity in accountability. Otherwise, different people will have different ideas about who does what when. 5. Set clear goals and expectations. Be clear and specific on what is expected. Give information on what, why, when, who and where. Be prepared to accept input from subordinates. Confirm and verify task goals and expectations. 6. Delegate responsibility and authority. Ensure that the subordinate is given the relevant responsibility and authority to complete the task. Let the subordinate complete the task in the manner they choose, as long as the results are what you specified. Be willing to accept ideas from the subordinate on task fulfillment. 7. Provide support, guidance and  instructions. Point subordinates to the resources they may need to complete the task or project. That could be people they need to coordinate with,  crucial information or  be willing to be a resource his/herself. 8. Take personal interest in  the progress of delegated task. Request to be updated on the progress of the task, provide assistance when necessary. Be careful not to be intrusive; giving the perception that he/she does not trust the subordinate. Keep communication lines open, regular meetings on large tasks can provide this ongoing feedback. 9. If he/she is not satisfied with the progress, don’t take the project back immediately. Rather, continue to work with the employee and ensure they understand the project to be their responsibility. Give advice on ways to improve. This ensures accountability and dependability. 10. Evaluate and recognize performance. Evaluate results more than methods. Analyze cause of insufficient performance for improvements and recognize successes as soon as possible. AC 3. 2 Assess how you can improve your own ability to delegate and empower others. Here are some suggestions for improving one’s own ability to delegate and empower others (Credit Research Foundation, 1999): 1. Understand the purpose of delegating very clearly. 2. Decide specifically what one can delegate. Generally delegate as much of ones work as possible. 3. Recognize that subordinates will make mistakes. Make sure they understand what they are to do. Be willing to take blame for mistakes that may be made. 4. Clarify what he/she is delegating. Agree on what the task is and how much â€Å"power† he/she is delegating to them to perform a particular job. Also, let others know of the arrangements so that proper cooperation will be extended to get the job done. 5. Most important,  follow-up. Remember that although you have delegated responsibility and empowered others to get the job done, he/she still have the final accountability for the job. Ask his/her team for progress reports or discuss with them from time to time. Empowerment This newer strategy may in-fact be the culmination of all the points above. Simply put, empowerment is delegation taken a step farther. In delegation, the supervisor is not only accountable for the results, but also assumes some responsibility since in most cases the delegated tasks most often are the job of the supervisor. Empowerment is the total, unmistakable passing on of responsibility to a person or team to accomplish a job or perform a process. As coach or supervisor, one have to maintain accountability for the overall outcome or results of the process. Empowerment brings with it a challenge for the organization to provide state-of-the-art systems, education, tools and most importantly support to the team for maximum performance. Applying empowerment frequently shifts ownership of a function or process from a traditional supervisor to a group, and with that ownership transfer; pride, job satisfaction, motivation and creativity develop. Introduction Facebook is a very famous social networking website, founded by Mark Zuckerberg in the year 2004. With more than 500 million users throughout the world, it has marked its place in every nook and corner of the entire globe (Facebook, 2014). A person aged 13 years or more can very easily create an account on Facebook, if they have a valid email address. It gives an option of creating a profile page, add friends to ones account, add ones interest, communicate with friends, share photos and videos etc. Along with that it also gives an option of seeing news feed, playing games, selecting different applications etc. An internet market research company, Alexa.com, rated Facebook in 2010 as the second website, after Google, which is most visited throughout the world. Background of the company Mark Zuckerberg was only 23 when he founded Facebook. He was a student at Harvard University and was studying psychology. Zuckerberg was good at computer programming and had developed number of other social networking sites like Coursematch and Facemash. Coursematch was where people could view others taking degree and Facemash was a site where one was able to give ratings to other people in terms of their looks. Initially, he named Facebook as The Facebook which was a name selected from different paper sheets which was distributed to freshers, profiling students and members in the staff. In just few hours after its launch, its popularity increased so much that almost 1,200 students at Harvard University signed-up on this site within 24 hours and a month later, more than half of the students who were undergraduate, created their profile on this site (Facebook, 2014). It was spread to other universities in Boston, along with Ivy League and ultimately to all the other universities in US. In August 2005, it bought its domain name as Facebook.com for $200,000. From September 2005, the high schools in the US were able to sign and after that, it began to spread throughout the world and reached the universities in the UK in the month of October, the same year. Within a years time, by September 2006, it gained so much of popularity that it was not restricted to only universities, but anybody with a valid email address could register themselves on Facebook. The users can register themselves free of cost and the website earns profit from different advertisements. Due to its tremendous success and popularity, internet giants Yahoo as well as Google has shown interest in buying Facebook (Facebook for Business, 2015). Marketing Analysis Right from its inception, Facebook used different marketing plans to make a firm place in the market. For this, at Facebook, the information is first gathered for the website and is searched to see it can be uploaded on the site without any negative impact and then an approval is given by the higher management. New ideas are also given and validated for the website. In todays world, one of the strategies that all the companies use is, communicating with the customers. Since Facebook was launched, it used to seek for the feedback from its users on different topics. This helped them to be on the same page as its users (Kagan, 2014). Recently, Facebook started giving such options to its users, wherein, they can also use the login Id of Facebook to login or sign up in another website. Due to so many different options, there are many investors who have started investing in Facebook. As per EMarketer, in 2012 almost 88% companies from throughout the world invested in this company (Bright Marketing, 2011). It also forecasted that the progress of Facebook might slow down in the coming years due to its different campaigns which they are planning to launch. It was assumed that the marketing of Facebook will progress from 72 per cent in 2010 to 88 per cent in the coming years. But interestingly, it went up to 92 per cent in the year 2014. Due to its popularity throughout the world, it was also said that the marketers of Facebook will make sure that the site is dynamic along with being innovative. The company also launched some new tools for marketing purposes in the year 2012. This proved to be very helpful for the marketers in creating their own page through Facebook. Thus, it can be said that both, the marketers as well as the users, are able to enhance their experience with Facebook on a regular basis. Conclusion This report is based upon different analysis as well as research on the social media giant, Facebook. It provides many facilities to its users who use social media sites. It is so dynamic that from liking and commenting on other peoples posts, users can also create their own page and share their ideas and views with the other users. Hence, it gives a better and varied options to all its users, be it an individual or a company (Research and Market, 2012). Since the time it was launched, Facebook has used different strategies to grow in the market. It makes sure that it fulfils the needs of its users which helps the users of Facebook, stay with the website. Its new facilities, different applications, and a simple and easy interface does not let the users become bored. There are many other social media sites which have been launched in the market with the aim of replacing Facebook.
